With more than 30 years of professional experience to his credit, Donald R. Nash, PhD, currently retired, has excelled for almost his entire career at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. Beginning his tenure at the aforementioned institute as an associate professor in 1972, he later accepted the post of the director of the hybridoma core in 1985. Holding both of these roles until 1992, Dr. Nash remained active as a professor and the associate director of the Center for Pulmonary Infectious Disease Control at the University of Texas Health Science Center until his retirement in 1999.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Nash cultivated his skills as a senior research scientist with the World Health Organization in Lausanne, Switzerland, from 1971 to 1972. Prior to attaining this role, he served as an associate professor in the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa and as a postdoctoral fellow at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. He began his career as a postdoctoral fellow with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1967. Fascinated with immunology from an early age, Dr. Nash pursued an education at the American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1961. Following this accomplishment, he continued his academic efforts with a Master of Science from Boston College in 1963. He concluded his studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, obtaining a PhD in 1967.

For excellence in his career, Dr. Nash has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades. Notably, he has previously been featured in the first edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and the 23rd edition of Who’s Who in the South and Southwest. Although he has accomplished much over the years, Dr. Nash is particularly proud of sponsoring and developing the Center for Pulmonary Infectious Disease Control at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler.
